The origins of the Haddon Hall date to the 11th century.
William Peverel, illegitimate son of
William the Conqueror, held the manor of Nether Haddon in 1087, when the survey which resulted in the
Domesday Book was undertaken. However it was never a castle but the manor of Haddon was protected by a wall after Richard Vernon received
license from future King John to build one in 1194 and is known today as the King John wall.
Although most of Haddon Hall as we see it today was completed in 1470 the Chapel had been in existence since 1170. Late medieval wall art is a major feature of the chapel
