Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth is now a largish shopping outlet. Before it became Gunwharf Quay it was a Royal Navy establishment know as HMS Vernon named after the original ships of centuries past. It was the navy's torpedo base established in 1923. The figurehead of the fourth HMS Vernon is on display at the Quays.
This was our second Christmas visit to the IoW and despite mostly night time storms we had a great time visiting Osborne House and the Pearl Centre both of which we didn't make it to the first time
