In 597AD Pope Gregory sent Monk Augustine as a missionary to England. He set up shop in Canterbury and became Englands first Archbishop. The Cathedral built 1070 - 1077 with a few additions having been made over the centuries with the newest bits seeming to have been made in the 14th century.
Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered by four nights following a big hint from King Henry II in 1170 in what is now known as the Martyrdom.
